To help reduce waste and pollution and in line with leading industry practice and research conducted by the CSIR, we are transitioning all South African stores to more sustainable single- and multi-use plastic bags.
Our decision to transition to plastic bags made from 100% recycled material reflects our commitment to supporting a more circular economy. These new bags have been designed to be optimally recyclable, making use of fewer inks and additives, significantly increasing the likelihood that these bags will be recycled at end of life.
We are also moving to a single bag design across all of our business units to ensure greater manufacturing efficiencies and lower production costs.
