Massmart joined forces with Alex FM, to mark Human Rights Day at the Refilwe Legae Orphanage in Alexandra.
The day’s festivities consisted of a cook-off battle between local chefs towards which Massmart contributed food , live entertainment, and career guidance workshop, all of which were geared towards reminding the children of the orphanage that they are supported by their community.
Through its longstanding CSI partnerships in Alexandra Massmart currently contributes meals to approximately 8500 people in the area, through Food Forward SA – the largest food redistributor in the country. This is in line with Massmart’s commitment to alleviate Food Insecurity and which, in the 2023 calenday year, saw the company providing food for approximately 1 milion meals countrywide through its partnership with FoodForward South Africa.
Commenting on Massmart’s participation in the Human Rights Day event, Charlene Louw, Group CSI Manager at Massmart said, “Alexandra is home to a large number of Massmart employees, customers, and small business owners, all of whom support our business and so it makes perfect sense for Massmart to become involved in local community initiatives. We were so pleased to have been invited by Alex FM to participate.”
Takalane Nemangowe, Station Manager at Alex FM said, “We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from both our community and partners which in this case helped us celebrate Human Rights Day with the children at Refilwe Legae Home.”
