Food Security

One third of all food produced in South Africa is wasted while millions of vulnerable people are food insecure. To play our part in addressing this issue, in 2010 we partnered with Food Forward SA, who are South Africa’s leading food redistributor.  Throughout this partnership we have donated approximately 1290 tonnes of food which Food Forward estimates to have equated to approximately 5 million meals.

Community Support and Disaster Relief

In addition to working to combat food insecurity, in 2014 we partnered with The Gift of the Givers Foundation - Africa’s largest emergency relief aid organisation, to support communities in times of need. Our extensive network of facilities, logistics infrastructure and wide product assortment make us well positioned to provide rapid and effective first responder emergency relief aid. Through our partnership with Gift of the Givers we have, over the last seven years, provided emergency relief across South Africa, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Malawi and Nigeria, donating approximately 1200 tons of food, water and personal care items towards relief efforts in these countries.

Early Childhood Development

Early childhood development lays the foundation for lifelong learning, behaviour and health, however, access to safe and quality education remains a scarcity for children in vulnerable communities around South Africa. Given the scale of this issue and its associated impact on the future potential of young children, we have been partnered with Hope worldwide SA since 2012. Data from Hope worldwide SA estimates that, through our partnership, over 900 early childhood development (ECD) centres have been revamped, benefitting approximately 49 000 children. Following a revamp, these ECD centres become eligible to apply for a government subsidy, thereby driving their long-term sustainability.
